As Director of Advancement, I oversee this talented and accomplished group of professionals whose role is to inspire, engage, and encourage lifelong relationships between the Academy and its alumni and friends. I provide strategic direction for our department’s activities, which include alumni and parent engagement, philanthropic support, and database management within the context of a comprehensive fundraising campaign. I have been in educational fundraising since 1995, and prior coming to Govs, I was Associate Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of Development at the University of New Hampshire. I reside in New Hampshire with my wife and four college and high school-age children.

As the Director of Annual Giving, I am fortunate to design and oversee a comprehensive annual giving program for my alma mater. Prior to joining the Academy in a professional capacity I was the Director of Annual Giving at Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA and at Shore Country Day School in Beverly, MA. I grew up in Hamilton, MA and recently moved back with my husband and two children after living in Charlestown for 10 years. My hobbies include playing tennis, paddle tennis, and I have a new found appreciation and interest in golf!

As the Director of Advancement Services, I oversee our Raiser’s Edge database. Additionally, I create custom reports to help our department analyze data and operate more efficiently. Prior to my time at the Academy, I worked for the Jesuits for many years as a Director of Advancement Operations. Outside of work, I am usually busy enjoying outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking, walking, or sitting by a campfire. I live in Barrington, NH with my wife and cat.

Jeffrey Gold

As the Associate Director of Annual Giving, I am fortunate to engage and develop sustaining relationships with alumni from 1990 through to present day. I create and implement comprehensive annual giving programs, including the Day of Giving and 100 Days Until Graduation, which keep our alumni connected to the Academy and one another. I first became acquainted to Governor’s through my wife, Karen Gold, who serves as the head of the English department, and was thrilled to join the staff after witnessing the difference the Academy was making in my oldest son’s life. Prior to Governor’s, I worked in sales, account management, and business development in the technology, sporting goods, and consumer products industries. Currently, my wife and I live in Ingham Dormitory with 36 energetic young men. My interests include new technology, all genres of music, photography, film, and keeping in touch with my three sons (Govs ’11, ’17), whom we enjoyed raising on campus.

As the Director of Leadership and Planned Gifts, I am fortunate to develop relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of the Academy to encourage their philanthropic support. My favorite aspect of this work is helping donors to align their passions with meaningful investments for the school. I have been at the Academy since March 2015, and previously was a director of development for the UNH College of Health and Human Services. Prior to working in development, I practiced clinical and community-based social work in NH for 11 years. I live in Newmarket, NH with my wife and two children. I especially enjoy time with family and skiing, golf, and hiking.

As the Director of Donor Relations, I seek to enhance the culture of philanthropy at the Academy by identifying, managing, and facilitating opportunities to recognize, appreciate, inform, and engage current and prospective donors. Just prior to my time at Governor’s I worked with multiple non-profits as a freelance marketing and events consultant. Before freelancing I managed the public programming and private events departments for The Crane Estate in Ipswich for six years. I live in Newburyport with my husband, our two children, and our fluffy little dog Domino. I enjoy hiking, reading, cooking, and time with friends and family.

Susan Laferriere

As the Senior Administrative Coordinator, I provide support to the Director of Advancement and serve as point of contact in the Director’s office. Prior to coming to the Academy in 2012, I worked in interior design for the higher education division at Shepley Bulfinch in Boston. Friends and family are a big part of my spare time, as is being a Boston sports fan. I also enjoy yoga, reading, and trying to cook.

As the Administrative Coordinator, I help fulfill various mailings, communicate with alumni, assist with event preparation and staffing as needed, and coordinate class notes twice yearly for the alumni magazine, The Archon. Prior to Govs, I was a member of the advancement team at The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. Currently, I live in Newburyport with my family, and in my spare time I enjoy writing for children and reading as hobbies.

As the Advancement Services Coordinator, I ensure that all financial gifts to The Academy are processed and recorded in a timely manner and that thank you letters and receipts are sent out to our donors. I have been working in Advancement Offices in independent secondary school settings for the past 6 years. Prior to working at Govs I worked in the Advancement Offices at Landmark School and Pingree School. I served on Endicott College’s Alumni Council and currently serve on Landmark School’s Alumni Council. My hobbies include travel, dance and photography. I love anything to do with Disney and I spend my free time at my beach house in Maine!

Diane Parsons
Prospect Management and Research Analyst

As the Prospect Management and Research Analyst, I work to discover and qualify known and prospective donors in order to enhance and inform the Academy’s fundraising effort. I provide information about a prospect or potential prospect’s wealth capacity, philanthropy, interests and connections. I also work with each fundraiser assisting them with the management of their portfolios. I began working in Prospect Research in 1990, rejoining the field in 2002 at Colby-Sawyer College. From 2008 to 2015 I was a Prospect Researcher at the University of New Hampshire. I am also a volunteer gardener on the Isles of Shoals. I plan and purchase the new plants for the season, coordinate up to 12 gardeners with the spring plantings, maintenance of the gardens during the summer season and the fall clean-up on Star Island.

As Director of Parent Programs, I enjoy building and sustaining relationships with Governor’s parents as well as encouraging philanthropic support that makes a meaningful difference for our students and faculty. Prior to my current role, I served as a teacher, coach, dorm parent, Associate Dean of Students and as an Admissions Officer at several other independent schools. All three of my boys were born here in Byfield while my late husband, Larry, and I lived and taught at Govs. After spending time at Albany Academy, and then Berkshire School, I returned to the Newburyport area and to the Academy to be closer to family and the ocean. When not at Govs, I can be found walking the beach. My other favorite pastimes include reading, volunteering, and practicing yoga.

As the Special Gifts Officer, I am fortunate to engage with and develop and sustain relationships with current and prospective donors to the Academy strengthening their connections to the Academy and thereby encouraging their financial support of the Academy’s future success. I joined the Academy following retirement from a successful 34 year career in wealth management and institutional asset services with The Northern Trust Company in Chicago and Boston. My father, George McGregor, is class of 1951 and a trustee emeriti, and I was married in Moseley Chapel. My husband and I live in Atkinson, NH with our two sons whenever their schedules permit. I thrive on time with family and friends, especially at the beach, and also enjoy photography, gardening, and reading.

As the Director of Alumni Relations, I am responsible for the planning and implementation of programs and projects that strategically connect alumni with each other and meaningfully engage them in the life of the Academy. In this role I am fortunate to work with our passionate and talented alumni volunteers, and enjoy meeting alumni of all generations and learning what Governor’s/GDA means to them. I previously worked in financial services for Bank Boston (BofA) and Paine Webber (UBS) in relationship management and project management roles. I have lived in Byfield for 20 years with my husband David, and children Lia ’17, and Andrew ’19.

As the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations, I assist with the management and execution of all alumni and parent engagement events throughout the year. This will be my third year at the Academy and I am proud to be a part of this tight-knit community in Byfield and beyond. Before joining the office in 2015, I was previously the Stewardship & Events Coordinator for the Advancement office at Kents Hill School. I am a former collegiate Division I swimmer and continue to be involved in the sport of swimming at the master’s level. Currently, I am pursuing my Master’s of Education degree in Athletic Administration at Endicott College.
